Brown Bag Ministry

The Brown Bag Ministry is a simple idea with a profound impact. Launched in June 2025 by missionaries Kaleena Christensen and Eleanora Moeller, and supported by their home congregations—Hope Lutheran and Our Redeemer Lutheran—along with the faithful women of the LWML in San Diego, this ministry brings care and dignity to the homeless community.

Each month, volunteers gather to pack and deliver bags filled with food, hygiene items, and words of encouragement—small things that become visible signs of God’s love. What begins with a brown bag often opens the door to conversation, prayer, and new relationships.

Looking ahead, the ministry is prayerfully discerning new ways to expand—whether through ongoing support, advocacy, or deeper connection beyond the bag itself. In the hands of Kaleena and Eleanora, what looks like an ordinary lunch bag becomes a ministry of presence, mercy, and hope on the streets of San Diego.
