Sheila Foskey

From a Coffee Table to a Global Mission: The Story of Sheila Foskey

Before Sheila Foskey ever dreamed of Facebook Live, or of praying with hundreds of people around the world, she was a little girl in the Philippines, watching her parents.

Every morning started the same way in her home:
A steaming cup of coffee. Two open Bibles.
Her mother and father sitting quietly together, reading the Word, whispering prayers.

And every night ended the same way:
Scripture, again. A home where faith was as steady as breathing.

Sundays meant church. Always.
It was in those early years that the rhythm of worship was planted deep in Sheila’s heart.

She didn’t know it then, but God was laying a foundation—a quiet faithfulness that one day would carry her through storms she could never have imagined.

 Faith Tested, Faith Found

Life was not always easy.
There were seasons of deep personal struggle, and the pain of watching her beloved mother grow sick.

In that season of difficulty, Sheila’s faith became her own.

She discovered that the God her parents prayed to every morning was listening to her as well. And in that crucible of suffering, a calling began to take shape:

“If I can find strength in the Word,” she thought,
“I want to help others find it too.”

A New Land, A Lonely Beginning

In 2023, Sheila came to the United States with her husband, Roland. His work kept him away much of the time, and Oceanside, California, felt very far from home.

The days were long. The house was quiet. And Sheila felt alone.

One morning, she remembered her parents’ table, their open Bibles, the way Scripture had always been a conversation partner in her life.

She opened her Bible and began to read. A verse spoke so clearly to her heart that she decided to post it on Facebook—just for herself.

The next day, she posted another. And another.

The Birth of Team Verse Genesis

Those verses turned into devotionals.
The devotionals turned into Facebook Live broadcasts.

Soon, hundreds—and then thousands—of people were watching.

Sheila called this new ministry Team Verse Genesis.

In Tagalog and English, she began to share:

  • Worship songs,

  • Bible reading,

  • Trivia games,

  • Testimonies,

  • Prayers for healing,

  • Encouragement for people who, like her, felt far from home.

For many of them, especially overseas Filipino workers, Sheila’s broadcasts became a lifeline.

Lives Changed, One Live Broadcast at a Time

The stories began to pour in:

A woman, lonely on her birthday, wept when Sheila called her live on the air.

“I thought everyone had forgotten me,” she said.
“But today God reminded me He sees me.”
That woman is now the president of a ministry in her own church.

Another follower who had left her Bible on a shelf for years began to read again.

A man, convinced his brother wouldn’t live to see Christmas, asked for prayer on the livestream.
God answered—and the family celebrated Christmas together.

Over and over again, Sheila has seen the Word she shares bring life.

A Church Connection and a Bigger Dream

Back in Oceanside, Sheila began attending Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her pastor noticed her gift and said,

“You need to meet these people—the Lutheran Mission Society of San Diego. They can walk with you and help you grow this ministry.”

That meeting changed everything.

Today, the Mission Society mentors Sheila, providing leadership training and helping her launch an in-person ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

From the Table to the World

Sheila’s dream is simple, and big:

“I want every person who listens to know that Jesus sees them, that He has not forgotten them, and that His Word is alive for them too.”

Even her cooking—Filipino dishes made with love—has become part of this calling, helping fund the ministry.

And Roland, once just a supportive observer, has become her biggest encourager after seeing the impact at events like Best Practices and LMSSD.

 The Story That Continues

From a childhood table in the Philippines to a laptop in Oceanside, from the quiet of her own devotions to the voices of thousands joining her live, Sheila Foskey has discovered what her parents always knew:

God’s Word never comes back empty.

And now, with a church family and the Mission Society walking beside her, this ministry is only beginning.
