The Oromo Ministry at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, led by Dawa Jarso, is a growing outreach that serves the Oromo-speaking community in San Diego. Each Sunday afternoon, Oromo families and individuals gather for worship—praising God, hearing His Word, and receiving the Sacraments in their heart language.
This ministry provides more than a worship service—it’s a community. Recognizing the challenges of adjusting to a new culture, language barriers, and the experience of isolation, the Oromo Ministry creates a welcoming space where people can belong, grow, and be encouraged in faith.
Alongside weekly worship, the ministry offers Bible study, prayer gatherings, and fellowship opportunities that help participants engage deeply with Scripture and with one another. Home visits, mentoring, and involvement in community events strengthen relationships and extend Christ’s love beyond the church walls.
Through these efforts, Dawa and his team seek to nurture faith, discipleship, and cultural identity, helping Oromo families not only hold on to their heritage but also thrive spiritually, relationally, and socially within the wider San Diego community.
