Victory Missional Communities

At Victory Lutheran Church in Chula Vista, 2025 marked the beginning of a new ministry led by missionary Gustavo Rubén Valderrama: missional communities. A missional community is more than a Bible study group or a fellowship gathering—it is a small community of disciples who share life together around the Word of God and prayer, and who intentionally open their circle to neighbors, relatives, and friends. It is church lived out in homes, schools, and neighborhoods, in rhythms of hospitality, discipleship, and mission. In this way, faith does not remain within the walls of the sanctuary but grows in the places where families live, study, and share daily life.

The first missional community meets right at the Victory campus in Chula Vista on Wednesday afternoons, immediately after school. Students, parents, and extended family members gather around food, games, and conversation that naturally flow into prayer and Scripture. What begins as after-school fellowship becomes an environment where families are strengthened, new friendships are formed, and the Gospel is proclaimed in word and deed. The second missional community takes place in National City, inside the home of one of the participating families. On Wednesday nights, the living room fills with relatives, friends, and neighbors who share a meal, study the Bible, and pray for one another. This household becomes a lighthouse of God’s grace in its neighborhood, where relationships are deepened and the mission of Christ extends into everyday life. Together, these communities embody the vision of Victory Lutheran: families growing in faith and carrying Christ’s presence into their homes, schools, and cities.
