Together for a New Mission Field

This past Saturday, June 13, something remarkable happened.

Around one table sat leaders from local Lutheran congregations, mission ministries, district leadership, and Synod representatives, united by a common conviction: the Gospel is for all people.

Under the leadership of President Gibson, we spent the day praying, listening, learning, and dreaming about what faithful outreach to Middle Eastern communities on the east side of San Diego could look like in the years ahead.

The conversations were filled with hope. We heard about the unique opportunities and challenges of sharing Christ’s love among people who have arrived in our communities from across the Middle East. We discussed partnerships, resources, leadership development, and practical ways congregations can serve as welcoming places where relationships are built and the Gospel is proclaimed with humility, compassion, and faithfulness.

As we looked around the room, we were reminded that mission begins when God’s people gather, listen to His calling, and take the next faithful step together. What started as a meeting felt much more like the beginning of a journey.

San Diego is home to thousands of Middle Eastern families, many of whom have experienced displacement, hardship, and tremendous life transitions. The Lord has brought the nations to our neighborhoods, creating opportunities for His Church to serve, love, and bear witness to Jesus Christ.

Please join us in praying for this important mission field. Pray for wisdom as plans continue to develop. Pray for open doors, strong partnerships, and Christ-centered relationships. Pray for the communities we hope to serve, and pray that many would come to know the hope, peace, and salvation found in Jesus.
