A Visit with Missionary Sheila and Roland Foskey – Please Join Us in Prayer

On July 26, our Missionary Director had the privilege of visiting our dear missionary sister Sheila Foskey and her husband Roland at their home in Oceanside. It was a simple afternoon—just time spent sitting together in front of their house, talking, laughing, and praying. Yet moments like these remind us why we call ourselves a Mission Society family: because we walk together, especially when the road gets hard.

Many of you know Sheila’s ministry. Every day, she shares the Gospel in Filipino online, reaching hundreds with the good news of Jesus. Now, with the encouragement of the Lutheran Mission Society San Diego and the blessing of her home church, Immanuel Lutheran, she is preparing to expand this ministry in person here in North County, reaching even more people with the hope of Christ.

But as they pour out their lives for others, Sheila and Roland are entering a season where they need us. Recently, Roland was diagnosed with cancer. They are still waiting to learn the full extent and the treatment plan ahead. In their own words, they are approaching this season “with faith in the Lord and with hope,” trusting that He will sustain them.

This is where we, the family of faith, come in. Would you take a moment to pray for them? Pray for healing. Pray for wisdom for the doctors. Pray for peace and strength for Roland and Sheila as they face what lies ahead.

And let’s not stop at prayer—let’s surround them with love. A comment, a note, a text—reminders that they do not walk alone.

In Pastor Tardelli’s words: “As I left their house, I couldn’t help but thank God for missionaries like Sheila and Roland, whose lives shine the light of Christ so beautifully even in the midst of trial.”

Please join us in lifting them up. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus for them in this moment.
